DG Jim's Corner October 2025

Rotary Clubs and Members,
Connecting with Rotarians from various clubs has deepened my appreciation for the network of committed individuals who dedicate their time and talents to making a positive impact. The warm welcomes and engaging conversations at each club reaffirmed the power of fellowship and collaboration to Unite for Good.
Every club operates with its own distinct traditions and projects, yet all share the common goal of service above self. Observing the different initiatives and community programs has inspired new ideas and best practices that can be implemented across clubs, strengthening our collective effectiveness.
October is Community and Economic Development Month:
Rotary clubs and members worldwide turn their attention to Community and Economic Development - one of Rotary’s seven key areas of focus. By prioritizing this area, Rotary aims to foster sustainable growth, improve livelihoods, and empower communities to thrive independently.
Community and Economic Development refers to efforts that help individuals and communities lift themselves out of poverty and create lasting improvements in their quality of life. This includes supporting local entrepreneurs, creating jobs, providing vocational training, and improving access to financial services. The goal is to empower communities to become self-sufficient, resilient, and capable of meeting their own needs.
Economic opportunity is a cornerstone of healthy, stable societies. By helping communities develop economically, Rotary clubs contribute to reducing poverty, increasing access to education, improving healthcare, and strengthening local economies. Projects often include microfinance initiatives, business skills training, agricultural development, and support for small businesses.
By focusing on Community and Economic Development this month, Rotary reaffirms its commitment to creating positive, lasting change. Through collective action and service, members play a vital role in empowering people and transforming communities for the better.
Foundation Brunch:
November is recognized worldwide as Rotary Foundation Month. This annual observance highlights the vital work and global impact of The Rotary Foundation, encouraging clubs, members, and communities to learn more about the Foundation's programs and to support its mission through donations and service projects.
The Rotary Foundation is the charitable arm of Rotary International, dedicated to advancing world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The commitment to the eradication of polio one of Rotary International longest standing and most significant efforts.
Join us for the District Foundation Brunch on November 2 at Ravenwood Golf Club, 929 Lynaugh Rd, Victor NY, 14564. $40 per person. We will be presenting the 2024-2025 Rotary Foundation certificates and banners to eligible clubs. Please register on the District website.
Our Guest Speaker: Johrita Solari, is a key figure in Rotary International’s efforts to eradicate polio. She was recently recognized for her “tireless commitment and outstanding effort” in the fight against polio, receiving the International Service Award for a Polio-Free World at the Rotary International Convention in Calgary. She serves as the Chair of the U.S. Polio Eradication Advocacy Task Force, and her work is crucial in motivating Rotary members and ensuring the continuation of polio eradication efforts.
Looking Ahead:
As we look forward in Rotary, the key to success lies in embracing change while staying true to our core values of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership. By adapting, engaging, and innovating, Rotary will continue to make a lasting difference—locally and globally—for generations to come.
Yours in Rotary.
