Peace Pole Project: Promoting Peace Across District 7120

District 7120's Peace Pole initiative celebrates Rotary’s commitment to fostering peace and understanding worldwide. Each Peace Pole serves as a symbol and reminder of our shared vision for a harmonious world, with poles planted in various communities by our district clubs. These installations, inscribed with “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in multiple languages, inspire reflection and unity.

Join us in supporting and expanding this impactful project by donating, sponsoring a Peace Pole, or volunteering for local installation events!

What Is A Peace Pole?

A Peace Pole is a monument that displays the message May Peace Prevail On Earth in the language of the country where it is placed. It usually displays 3 to 7 additional languages meaningful to the host site. The message is referred to as an affirmation of peace and its placement furthers Rotary’s goal of building a culture of peace throughout the world.

Peace Poles are intended to inspire unity among people of all cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds.  We recommend a Peace Pole ceremony to accompany the planting of each pole and this ceremony can be held annually.

Many prefer the International Day of Peace, September 21, for such an occasion The message May Peace Prevail On Earth was authored by the late Masahisa Goi of Japan after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is now an international message of peace with over 250,000 Peace Poles in every country in the world, dedicated as monuments to peace.  We welcome you to plant your community Peace Pole and we will put it on our Rotary Peace Poles Map.

Peace Pole Dedication Ceremony

A Peace Pole dedication ceremony is an exciting event, whether it is planned for a public place where hundreds of people will attend or a private backyard. Every dedication ceremony is a unique outcome of the shared experience of those who plan the program, as well as those who attend.

Some Peace Poles are already placed in the ground prior to the ceremony and unveiled during the dedication. Or you may choose to have a group planting, where everyone gets to heave a shovelful of dirt.
